As we celebrate our 15th anniversary, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on our journey, our values, and what sets us apart as commercial electricians. We’ve come a long way since our humble beginnings in 2008, and I owe that success to our dedicated team, strong relationships with our clients and partners, and a commitment to excellence in every project we undertake.
A Commitment to Excellence
Over the years, I’ve witnessed significant changes in the electrical industry. From the recession-era residential remodels to the resurgence of mixed-use and multi-family construction, Exact Electric has adapted and thrived. Today, our team of 70+ professionals specialize in mid-sized new construction, commercial tenant improvements, and more. About 95% of our business comes from repeat clients and referrals. Thank you to all that have referred us! We’ve cultivated strong relationships with our general contractors by understanding their needs and maintaining a commitment to scheduling precision.
Every contractor operates a little differently and we take the time to get to know their needs and how they operate so that we can be a great trade partner. A couple of common things that we know are important to our contractors are their schedule and the ability to handle all electrical scopes of work. We pride ourselves on our ability to maintain the schedule. We do this by spending a good amount planning up front, before the project starts. Getting through the submittal process and ordering long lead-time materials immediately upon signing the contract has been critical for us. Since Covid, we have seen materials that typically take 12 weeks to procure, take 70 or more weeks. Additionally, we handle all electrical scopes, including fire alarm, area of rescue/two-way radio, DAS, access control, cameras, loss prevention systems, DATA/communication, and solar. Exact Electric is your one stop shop for all things electrical.
Our team shares our core values and operates with the mindset of ‘always be improving’. It has been a long road to find such a great group of people which makes it very satisfying to be part of such an amazing team.
Customer-Centered Communication
Our success hinges on effective communication. We start by asking the right questions and diving into project details. For design/build projects, we work closely with stakeholders to ensure clarity and efficiency. We document everything meticulously, from RFI’s to shop drawings, to keep everyone on the same page. We’ve also forged strong relationships with trusted professionals in related industries, allowing us to offer a comprehensive suite of services. Whether it’s plumbing, HVAC, or other subcontractors, we ensure our customers have access to the best in the business.
Many of our jobs are design/build so there are typically many details on the project that need to be figured out during the design process. Some are related to other trades scopes, that are yet to be designed, and affect our electrical scope. Some information still needs to be decided by ownership and architects in the form of decisions. We are experienced in working through project design with the general contractor/developer, architect, ownership, and other trades as needed. Our experience with the types of projects that we work on really helps us to tease out the information that we need to complete our design. We document everything with RFI’s, submittals, and shop drawings so that everyone is on the same page and expectations are clear.
When we work on projects that have been designed/engineered by others, we are very good at finding ways to value engineer the project without sacrificing functionality. We work to help save money for ownership by discussing with stakeholders and finding out what is important to them and redesigning parts of the project so that the installation can be done more cost effectively. We work closely with stakeholders to get the job done within budget, which really sets us apart from our competitors. This approach has been key to developing strong relationships with our customers.
Embracing Technology and Training
We’re not just about wires and circuits; we embrace technology too. We use cutting-edge software to streamline our operations and stay ahead of industry trends. We’re also exploring the potential of AI to enhance our services further. Staying current with codes, products, and labor-saving solutions is our way of ensuring top-quality installations at competitive prices. We keep up with all new codes, both local and national.
We are always looking for new products that make our installations more efficient so that we can be competitive in the marketplace. We have a small prefab shop, which improves productivity and helps us stay ahead of schedule. Exact Electric is committed to training and education for employees, and we are always learning about new technologies and new industry standards. We consistently take advantage of technologies, training, early planning, and labor-saving products to ensure we can provide excellent services and products at a fair price.
Safety First
Safety is paramount at Exact Electric. Our team undergoes regular safety training, conducts weekly job site safety meetings, and employs an app-based system for daily hazard analysis to monitor compliance. We regularly send team members to trainings or hold training sessions at our office so that our team is up to date on the latest codes, technologies, and products. We believe that a safe work environment is essential for delivering quality results.
With Gratitude
As I look back on our journey, I’m most proud of our remarkable customers we’ve served and our incredible team we’ve built. From our dedicated office staff to our skilled lead electricians and apprentices, we share core values and a commitment to improvement.
It is so rewarding to think Exact Electric started as a one-man operation doing mostly knob and tube replacement jobs and now, we are doing multiple midrise design/build and many commercial projects at any one time. I love working through challenges and delivering stellar results for our customers. There is nowhere I’d rather operate than the space we are in right now! Of course, I felt the same 15 years ago when I started the company and I’m excited to see where the next 15 years takes us as a company.
Thank you for being a part of our journey, and here’s to many more years of excellence!
