Washington State, like most states, requires that you hire a licensed electrician
To do your electrical work; otherwise your insurance company will not cover any damages in the event of an electrical fire.
By law, you can do electrical work on your own home but if you are not a licensed electrician you cannot work on other people’s homes. Of course when replacing a light fixture or a broken switch, a license is not required. However, if you are adding circuits, working in a panel, upgrading services and ensuring everything is up to code you will want to hire a licensed and insured electrician.
When it comes to insurance claims, the keyword is insured. Ensure you are working with a company that is a licensed and insured electrical contractor, otherwise if something happens to your home due to or during electrical work you will not be protected against loss.
